Free Downloads from the Labels

13 09 2012

Moshi Moshi Records Label SamplerWe are of course fully within the digital world now and whilst I still like to purchase music and books in a physical form I also download and listen to music tracks on my phone or iPod (yes even I have one!)

A number of the record labels offer free tracks for download from their artists, the obvious reason behind this is to build a fanbase around the music and to market an artist for very little cost.

One of the labels doing this is Moshi Moshi Records. The London based label has been, or is, home to the likes of Bloc Party, Friendly Fires, Kate Nash, Architecture in Helsinki and Florence and the Machine.

If you browse the website and find yourself at the Store page (which I did of course) then you will see a link to free downloads, to get the downloads you need to subscribe to the email list – no real headache and you can always unsubscribe later if it’s not to your taste.

For this little bit of work – and let’s face it entering an email address into a box is not the hardest thing on earth – you get 7 free tracks when you log back into your account via the free downloads link.

The track list is as follows:

  • Veronica Sawyer by Summer Camp
  • Sweetheart by The Wave Pictures
  • Free the Pterodactyl 3 by Hot Club de Paris
  • Another Likely Story by Au Revoir Simone
  • Finn Bikkjen by Casiokids
  • See Spaces by Teeth
  • Stay Wild, Tokelau by Still Flyin’

Another place to get some free tunes is Constellation Records, bands like Tinder Sticks and Godspeed You! Black Emperor have released material with this indie label. What you get from Constellation at the moment is a Free Label Sampler from releases in 2011. In addition the label has another page with a further 40+ free downloads for your aural pleasure.

I will confess that whilst I have been downloading these tracks today I am yet to listen to a single one!

Hope you enjoy the blog post and if you have any other favourite spots for some free music then please comment below.
